Hello interesting post for me as we are working with several primary schools at the moment. Regarding an elearning platform we have built a ‘course management’ solution using Google sites for some of our primary school clients which is basic in functionality but means people do not need to use two systems.

We’mve been using Google Apps Ed for about 18 months at Island Pacific School, an IB MYP World School. Nearly all student work is done in the cloud on GApps, a ning and a wiki.

We find GApps great for production, especially collaborative work, but find a ning a better tool for discussions and a wiki better than a Google site for publishing student work. The calendar and emailbare rhe best.

But, I’m also experimenring with noodle as GApps falls down a bit in course managment. Middle is better for tracking to-do, e.g. Assignment milestones & due dates.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Our LEA are pushing their own email / calendar tool, but I’ve been reluctant to sign up… as a happy Gmail user myself, I’m really interested in seeing how Google Apps could be used in school.

Thanks for the comment! Moodle is certainly an option, our staff wouldn’t have gone with it but Studywiz is about as straightforward as a complete learning platform gets (but it isn’t cheap!!). Have you looked at edmodo as another tool (it’s free).

Thank you for this review. I have been considering moving from Moodle to GoogleApps; however, upon reflection this may not be the best move. Out of curiosity I am now looking at Studywiz!
